virginia. molly henneberg is live in montcoal, west virginia, with the latest on that. hello, molly. >> reporter: families waiting for word, they knew 18 people were already dead in the mine and it could be four more that were alive. there were 22 families that didn't know who was among the dead or who could be among alive and last night they got the word nobody survived. west virginia governor joe manchin has asked for west virginians and others around the nation to pause for a moment of silence on monday at 3:30 in the afternoon. that's one week after the explosion that killed the 29 people. at the upper big branch mine. four of whom as i was saying were hoped to be alive but they were found dead alongside their colleagues last night. here's more. >> we did not receive the miracle we prayed for. we have accounted for the four miners that were unaccounted for. we have a total of 29 miners that we are recovering at this time. >> reporter: these small communities around here sustained the industry and the job they provide and feel the deaths acutely. rescuers hoped they could find th

country, crews in west virginia beginning the task of recovering bodies of a devastating mine explosion. search teams finding the bodies of four missing miners. they have been missing since the blast earlier this week. it ends for the week for the families hoping that the missing miners somehow managed to survive. it brought the death toll to 29 in the worst mining disaster in four decades. molly henneberg is live. how do the families get the word. >> reporter: hi, gregg. 22 families have been pretty much standing vigil by the mine, waiting to see if their loved ones could be among the four they thought could be alive. they knew there were 18 bodies and four why unaccounted for and 22 families have been there all week hoping against hope that their loved ones could have survived the blast. late last night, mine officials got word from rescue teams on the ground they had made their way to the last place where the four possibly could have survived. the rescue chamber had not been opened and they had found the bodies of the unaccounted bodies. that brought the death toll to 29. this is the
